Gertie wants to prove that she is the best fifth grader. But there are other kids in grade five who also want to be the best. How do you solve this problem?

Gertie lives with her father and aunt. Her mother left them and is marrying somebody else. But Gertie would do anything to bring her back. She will learn the capitals of all states. She will get all points on her math test. And she will get the main role in the school play.
"Because, sometimes, a person just had to say no."
Gertie is having some problems at school. There is a new girl who is mean to Gertie. And she manages to persuade everyone to be on her side. Even Gertie's best friend Jean. Junior Jr. is the only one who stays true to Gertie. Aunt Rae says that sometimes people can be nice and like you, and sometimes they dont. "People are fickle," Aunt Rae said.
"Everybody messes up," added Ms. Simms, as if she could read Gertie's mind. "Even techers."
Gertie is being bullied at school. But she is strong, and she works hard, and she manages to stay herself to the end.
I finished reading this book at the end of the Anti-Bullying Week, and it was a good example that you should always choose respect.
